What is Pride Youngstown

Pride Youngstown  is the promoter of the Youngstown Gay Pride Festival a weekend celebration of the tri-county LGBT community.

Our Mission

Pride Youngstown is a non-profit organization consisting of individuals who meet year-round to develop, organize, coordinate and promote the Pride Parade and Festival and other events or legal activities for our community.

Goals

Pride Youngstown is dedicated to education, and to the commemoration of the Lesbian-Gay-Bi-Transgendered (LGBT) heritage Pride Youngstown’s goals are to effect positive growth in ourselves, our work, the Gay community and our future; to be a catalyst in   bringing education, awareness and knowledge of the Gay  community to the general public; to relegate prejudice and discrimination to the past, to improve the valley for all its residents.    Through the Pride parade and festival and other events we are working to achieve these goals.

Pride Youngstown Community Picnic

A part of our scheduled weekend events, the Picnic Committee has chosen Churchill Park in Liberty Ohio for the fun.  When - Sunday, June 6, 2010 at noon until 8pm. The picnic welcomes the LGBT community and allied families. In addition to delicious food, great dance music and kids entertainment, there will be a special surprise.  Pride Youngstown will provide the hot dogs, families and friends are encouraged to pack a picnic basket.

Water balloons, toys and games are welcomed.  This is a dry event.

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

2009 was our inaugural year for the gay pride festival here in Youngstown. But the festival was not and is not the only activity we plan.  Having Pride in who we are, in what we do and the diversity of the LGBT, is not relegated to just one time a year in June.  Pride Youngstown is here to make things better for the greater Youngstown community.

Something for Everyone is a series of community events designed with you in mind! For 2010 and 2011 Pride Youngstown will present a number of affordable, fun, educating, and entertaining events designed with the idea of bringing together members of the Youngstown community.

In October we will encourage people to come out of the closet and join us with a National Coming Out Day community workshop.

We urge everyone to express their pride as we sponsor "Art in the Park" at Wick Park.  A display of the work of amateur photographers and artist.

March 2011 we will once again celebrate Mardi Gras.  Stay tune to this site for more information.

In 2011 we will be adding to our calendar ' a 'short hole' golf tournament to benefit the Ebony Ladies Golf League's Youth Foundation,

In the works is FLAMING FILMS (a Gay film festival) and Narratives in Black (gay stories from the Civil Rights Movement) in February.

We are working with others to establish a Breast Cancer Survivor Memorial Garden.

Last please join us at the Oakland Theatre in May 2010 for one day only performance of When I knew and how it saved me, a Rob Joki produced and directed play.  The play will have all new songs and and stories.

A slave-owner who through guile, cunning and violence shackles a slave in chains, and a slave who through guile, cunning and violence breaks the chains-

let not the fools and the contemptible eunuchs tell us that they are equals before a court of morality!
